It was a great weekend at the IESA State Chess Meet with 8 rounds spanning a total of 14 hours. All of our players earned wins, with the team finishing 30th out of 59 teams competing in the 8th grade division. Casey Williams finished with a team high of 4.5 points, followed closely by Lane Malone with 4 points. Aaden Kiper and Jasper Houzenga finished with 3 points, and 6th grader Ethan Jones finished with 2 points which is even more impressive considering he played two grades up in the 8th grade division. These boys represented the school and community proudly! #SpartanPride

Our brains are great at using past experiences to make quick decisions on the fly, but these shortcuts can also lead to bias. "Confirmation bias" is our brain's tendency to seek out information that confirms things we already think we know. Help your students learn to recognize this when they encounter news online, as a way to examine competing opinions and ideas and to avoid drawing questionable conclusions.
