Kids learn about appropriate verbal and physical communication from watching you. But online conversations can be invisible. Occasionally, narrate as you're writing texts or social media comments when your kids are in earshot.
During early release day, Pre-K through 2nd grade participated in a NED assembly. NED is a loveable cartoon character whose name is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best! Students were engaged in a storyline teaching perseverance and fun yo-yo tricks!
SIP days at Olympia South Elementary School = STEM Days. Our fourth and fifth graders all learned Block Coding and participated in the Hour of Code week on Tynker.com while the OHS STEM Club students assisted. So many Spartan Skills were observed today; Perseverance, Determination, Team-work, Collaboration, Empathy, and Problem Solving. Thank you State Farm for the support given to our students.
Social interaction is part of what makes online gaming so popular and engaging for kids. Of course, online communication can come with some risks. Show your kids how to keep their gaming experiences fun, healthy, and positive.

Olympia High School National Honor Society is sponsoring a letters from Santa project. NHS students will write letters as Santa to your kids for Christmas. There is no cost. Family Tip 4: Watch and play together
Mrs Goeke and Mrs. Hoffmemeir's classes read Moosletoe today and then worked through the STEM process to help Moose with his problem of not having a Christmas tree. They all worked well together showing Spartan skills of Determination, Perserverance, and Teamwork while also being Creative.

Olympia South had the pleasure of having Mr. P spend the morning doing all the work of a principal. He started the staff's day off with a teachers lounge full of doughnuts which were greatly appreciated! He did morning announcements, read to classes, did building checks and visited classrooms and of course-bus, lunch and recess duty!
