What an exciting real-world learning experience for our 8th graders at OMS! We were thrilled to welcome back one of our very own Spartan alumni, Connor Stine, who spoke to the class about his exciting career as a chiropractor. He shared valuable insights into his profession and stressed the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Students were fully engaged, and some even got to try a few of the techniques he uses every day. We are so grateful for our past and present Spartans!

We’re proud to share that Olympia Middle School has once again been recognized as an Illinois Horizon School to Watch. OMS is one of only 30 middle schools in the entire state of Illinois to earn this distinction. The Schools to Watch program celebrates schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and continuous improvement.

As part of this recognition, OMS participated in a rigorous evaluation process led by representatives from the National Forum and continues to engage in ongoing self-assessment using the Schools to Watch framework.

This past June, our school was honored at the National Forum’s Annual Schools to Watch Conference in Washington, D.C. We’re incredibly proud of our students and staff for their dedication to making Olympia Middle School a place where every student can thrive and work to achieve personal success.

Last night, OMS Girls Basketball welcomed the Lady Legends 2nd–5th graders for a special practice. Our athletes led drills, taught fundamental skills, and—most importantly—built meaningful connections with these young players. As a program, we strive to look beyond the scoreboard. We are committed to giving back to the organizations and youth programs that helped shape our current athletes. Our goal is not only to teach the game of basketball, but also to inspire the next generation—showing them what it means to lead with passion, serve our community, and share a genuine love for the game. It was a wonderful night of learning, leadership, and building the future of OMS basketball.

We would like to remind our families that we have a District non-profit, the Spartan Promise Council, that exists to remove barriers for students. This non-profit is funded by individual community members and generous church donations. If your Olympia child needs food, clothing, or some other type of assistance, please reach out to our Student Support Specialist, Cari Roop (cari.roop@olympia.org). While there are food pantries in our communities, we also have a Spartan Market on the OHMS campus. The QR code on the flyer allows you to make a request. We hope that these services can help support our students during these challenging times.
